To put it simply, with weighted average cost at stores can be different. You have to check whether they are right.
However, with price something is wrong there. Price of an item generally same at all stores unless the management choose not to for some reason.
- Find out is there any price change worksheet had been sent to stores recently.
- If there are some price changes, is it sent to only particular stores or to all stores?
- if it is for all stores then did any store didn't process the worksheet due to error and hq acknowledged it but didn't send it again?
- If you have any archived database , perhaps you can track back and find from when this anomaly started? and move on from there.
I will do my best to explain the weighted average bellow,
If your HQ Manger (not just store) configured to use weighted average then yes HQ cost will vary time to time.
You can find out whether HQ also using weighted average by going to HQ Manager > Configuration > Options > Calculate HQ item cost as weighted average.
But it affects only the COST property at general tab. But, I am sure you are talking about Store cost tab.
When using weighted average each store may have different cost.
Let's say store 1 & 2 received 10 pcs of ItemA at the cost of $5. Then
cost @ store 1 is : (10x5)/10 = $5 [Qty x Cost] / Total quantity
cost @ store 2 is : (10x5)/10 = $5
cost @ HQ General Tab is: ((10x5) + (10x5) )/20 = $5 ( (S1 Qty x S1 Cost)+(S2 Qty x S2 Cost) )/ Total Qty
Now lets say, on next purchase order store1 received 10 pcs of ItemA at the cost of $2. Then
new cost @ store 1 is : ( (10x5) + (10x2) )/20 = $3.50 [(Qty x old Cost)+(Qty x new Cost) ] / Total Qty
cost @ store 2 is still : $5
new cost @ HQ General Tab is: ((20x3.5) + (10x5) )/30 = $4
